TMonkey Falls is situated approximately 6 km from Aliyar Dam, 27–29 km from Pollachi, and about 65 km from Coimbatore, making it one of the most visited natural attractions along the route to Valparai. Every year, thousands of tourists stop here to enjoy the refreshing waterfall, natural bathing area, and the lush forest scenery of the Western Ghats.
According to reports, the ongoing dry season and lack of sufficient rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Anamalai Hills have considerably reduced the water flow at the falls. In view of the low discharge, authorities have temporarily suspended public entry and bathing activities until conditions improve.
The closure is intended not only to safeguard visitors but also to protect the fragile environment surrounding the waterfall. During periods of low water availability, maintaining ecological balance and minimizing human disturbance become important conservation priorities in the forest region.
Although Monkey Falls is currently inaccessible, visitors travelling towards Valparai can still enjoy several nearby attractions. Aliyar Dam, Aliyar Park, panoramic viewpoints overlooking the reservoir, and the world-famous 40 hairpin bends continue to offer spectacular experiences. The drive through the foothills of the Anamalai Hills remains one of the most scenic mountain journeys in South India.
Tourists planning a visit are advised to verify the latest status of Monkey Falls before starting their trip, as reopening will depend on improved rainfall and restoration of adequate water flow.
Until the waterfall reopens, Aliyar Dam and its surrounding attractions continue to provide visitors with breathtaking landscapes, family-friendly recreation, and an unforgettable gateway to the beautiful hill station of Valparai.
