The popular natural waterfall Monkey Falls (Kavi Aruvi) located on the Pollachi–Valparai mountain road near Aliyar Dam has been temporarily closed to tourists from today due to the lack of water flow. Forest Department officials stated that visitors will not be allowed to enter the waterfall area or bathe there until further notice.
Monkey Falls, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Aliyar Dam, is one of the most visited natural attractions on the route to Valparai. Every year, thousands of travelers stop here while driving from Pollachi towards the hills to enjoy the cool waterfall and the surrounding forest scenery.
However, due to the summer season and the absence of recent rainfall in the region, the water flow at the falls has reduced significantly. As a safety precaution, the Forest Department has decided to temporarily suspend tourist access to the waterfall area.
Alternative Travel Suggestion for Visitors
Tourists who planned to visit Monkey Falls can instead continue their journey towards Valparai, a scenic hill station located above Aliyar Dam. The road from Aliyar to Valparai is famous for its 40 hairpin bends, offering breathtaking views of the Western Ghats, reservoirs, and lush green landscapes.
Visitors can consider travelling up to Valparai and staying there for a day to explore the beautiful tea estates, viewpoints, waterfalls, and the peaceful mountain environment. A short stay in Valparai allows travelers to experience the cool hill climate and natural beauty of the region.
The Forest Department has stated that tourist access to Monkey Falls will be reopened once rainfall improves and water flow returns to normal. Until then, visitors are requested to cooperate with the authorities and follow the safety guidelines while traveling along the Aliyar–Valparai route.
